Gurdwara Sri Guru Nanak Ate Guru Gobind Singh Sahib Sarai Naga

There are 2 Historic Sikh Gurdwaras here, one remembers the visit of Sri Guru Nanak Sahib Ji and the other of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji.

When Sri Guru Nanak Sahib Ji visited Sarai Naga Guru Ji met Baba Pheru Mal, who was Guru Angad's father. Baba Pheru Mal gave Guru Nanak a Rabab (a lute-like musical string instrument). Guru Nanak gave the gift to Bhai Mardana (a skilled musician) who usually accompanied Guru Nanak on his travels.

Guru Nanak stayed at Sarai Naga for 6 days, at the time a Sufi was staying at the village, people called him Naga. Guru Nanak is said to have cured a person named Karmu from the disease of Kohar.

Later, Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji visited the village after the Battle of Muktsar. Guru Gobind Singh stayed the night and met Naga Sadhu who was said to be extremely old. Guru Gobind Singh said it was not right to increase ones age with help of Sidhi. Naga asked how would anyone remember him if he passed away. Guru Gobind said that he would be remembered for his name, which would become the name of the village as Sarai Naga. Thats how 'Matte Di Sarai' became 'Sarai Naga'.

Gurdwara Sri Janam Asthan Guru Angad Sahib

This Gurdwara commemorates the birth of Sri Guru Angad Sahib Ji who was born to Baba Pheru Mal and Mata Sabharee (Guru Angad's mother is known by a few different names).

Guru Angad spent the first 11 years of his life here before moving to Khadoor Sahib.
