1984 Statements

Statement submitted before the Nanavati Commission

Witness No. 54

Name : Ms Manjit Kaur

Age : 46 Years

Occupation : House Wife

Address : B-72-A, Raja Garden, New Delhi

On SA

I had filed an affidavit before this Commission. It is shown to me, it bears my signature. The affidavit is taken on record and marked as Exhibit No.54/1. I was residing at B-5, 428, Nand Nagari, New Delhi in November, 1984.

I had received an injury on my nose as a result of stick blow and my sister-in-law Ms Jaspal Kaur had received two injuries with knife. Two sons of my sister-in-law's had also received injuries, that was the reason why we had gone to the hospital.

Cross examination by S.S. Gandhi, Sr. Advocate on behalf of Delhi Police

I had not filed any affidavit before Justice Ranganath Mishra Commission of Inquiry. I had not filed any complaint anywhere except that I had told the persons of Gurdwara and there I had given a complaint. It is not correct to say that I had not filed any complaint to the police.

I had given a complaint at the Gurdwara a copy of which is annexed to my affidavit. That complaint was written by some woman at Gurdwara. The complaint was written on the basis of what I had told her. I had told her that my sister-in-law and two sons of my sister-in-law also received injuries.

I had not read the complaint which was prepared by that woman but I merely signed it. The complaint was prepared in English and I merely signed it. The contents were explained to me in Punjabi. I was merely told that whatever I had told they had written in that complaint.

No Cross examination by K.K. Sud, ASG on behalf of Central Government

Read over and found correct.
