1984 Delhi Sikh Genocide - Statements

1984 Statements

Statement submitted before the Nanavati Commission

Witness No. 109

Name : Kuljit Singh

Age :

Occupation : Business

Address : 84, Gurdwara Bala Sahib Road, Jiwan Nagar, New Delhi – 14.

On SA

I am shown my affidavit filed before this commission on 29.8.2000, [The affidavit is taken on record and marked as exhibit No.W2/1]. It bears my signature. I say that the contents thereof are correct. In addition to what I have stated in my affidavit I have nothing more to say. My affidavit may be treated as my examination in chief.

Cross examination by S.S. Gandhi, Senior Advocate on behalf of Delhi Police

The mob had entered my house at about 8.00 am on 2.11.84. I had not filed any affidavit previously either before Justice Ranganath Mishra Commission of Inquiry or before any other authority looking into Anti-Sikh Riots. Bala Sahib, Jeevan Nagar and Bhagwan Nagar are side by side. No incident had taken place at Jeevan Nagar and Bhagwan Nagar on 2.11.84.

I remained in the Gurdwara for about 15 days. In between I had gone to my house to look at it. My first visit to my house was on 3.11.84 when the army had come there. I had prepared my complaint in the premises adjacent to the Gurdwara. I had written the complaint myself. It had not happened that somebody had given a typed complaint where in there were some blanks and I had filled up those blanks.

The whole of it was written in my hand. I am shown the complaint, a copy of it is annexed to my affidavit. It is the same complaint which I had filed. I had not made any inquiry later on as regards the complaint which I had filed before the police. It is true that on the basis of my complaint the police had recorded an offence being FIR No.369.

The police had also not contacted me thereafter. It is true that after filing my complaint I had not given the list of properties stolen or looted from my house to the police. I had not stated in my complaint that my house was set on fire.

Read over and found correct.
