1984 Affidavits

Affidavit submitted before the Nanavati Commission

I, Ujjar Singh S/o S. Santa Singh aged 60 yrs. R/o H.No. 2, Chander Vihar, Nilothi Gaon, Meera Kund, Delhi-41, do hereby solemnly affirm and declare as under:-

1. That in Nov.'84, I was staying at A-2/287, Sultanpuri, New Delhi along with my family consisting of my wife, two sons and a daughter.

2. That I was working as Iron Smith at construction site, in respect of putting irons for Lenten purpose.

3. That on 1st Nov.'84, at about 11 am a large number of vilent mob entered our Block from Mangolpuri side. I could hear loud noise of "Bachaoo Bachaoo" as well as "Marroo Marroo" at my house. These type of voices were coming from the rows of the houses adjacent to my house which was very horrible for me.

4. That I hid ourselves along with my family member in the bathroom of my neighbour. When the mob did not find us in our house consequently they came to our neigh borers house where we were hiding ourselves. I could hear the voice of mob who were shouting at my neighbour that he should tell us where about for Sikh family. The mob also threatening the said neigh borers that the mob can search his house. However mob went away and we were remain there in house of my neighbour for next three days.

5. That on 4th Nov.'84, Army came in the area and they assured that there is no danger to anyone and we can came out. Accordingly we came out of the said neighboured and police personnel took us in the Army vehicle to Rani Bagh Camp. I stayed in the said Camp for 14 days.

6. That my house was looted by the said violent mob and burnt the same thereafter. I suffered losses to the tune of Rs.35,000/- in respect of loss of my household goods and damaging my property. I have not been paid any compensation till date which I am entitled to.

7. That I have lodged a complaint with the Sultanpuri Police Post to this effect.
