1984 Affidavits

Affidavit submitted before the Misra Commission

I, Swaranjit Kaur, widow of late S. Harbir Singh, resident of S/o S. Moninder Singh, House No.2645, Nawan Kot, Amritsar, with old address at Plot No.333, House No.WZ-149, Chand Nagar, New Delhi, do hereby solemnly affirm and declare as under: -

1. That my husband was having a workshop for repair of motor engines. A mob consisting of approximately 500 people attacked our home killing mercilessly S. Harbir Singh, my husband with the iron rods of similar size and shape possessed by every person of the mob. They were using some white coloured chemical with when sprinkled, it immediately burnt.

On 31st October, 84, along with S. Harbir Singh, others killed were S. Mohan Singh, S. Harbans Singh and his son. The mob humiliated me also badly and I was also manhandled by them. No help from police was rendered, rather they were the silent spectators over there. Everything was happening right under their nose.

2. That I was not given the possession of the dead body of my husband even. Our workshop was also burnt. The loss amounting to Rs.50,000/-. My sister Paramjit Kaur, widow of S. Mohan Singh was also killed by the mob. We were not provided with any security or shelter by any official camp. I was given help from Ajit Relief Fund and the S.G.P.C.
