I, Swaran Kaur wife of S. Balbir Singh, aged 40 years, resident of Gali No.6, Hardev Puri, Shahdara, Delhi-93, presently resident of B-1/11-D, Tilak Vicar, New Delhi, do hereby solemnly affirm and state on oath as under: -
1. On 1-11-84, at about 2 PM, when the mob attacked us, then our neighbour Gauri Shankar who reside just in front of our house hid us in his house.
2. On 2-11-84, at 11 PM, a mob comprising of about 400 – 500 men came and attacked us. The mob was being led by one Joshi, dealer of kerosene oil. He resides only four houses away from my house. I know him very well. Provision merchant Mst. Darshana's nephew (her husband's sister's son) whom I know well as he resides nearby was also leading the mob.
Joshi told the mob that Sikhs are hiding there. Gauri Shankar had already advised us to hid behind the lintel when mob comes. When mob started retreating, Darshana's husband asked the men to look for Sikhs behind the lintel. They caught hold of my husband. My son Gurbachan Singh who got married only fifteen days back and had taken shelter there was also caught by the men of the mob.
They were mercilessly beaten by iron rods, axes, and lathis. I came forward and tried my best to defend them. In the process they broke my arm also. I received lathis blows on breast, hands, back etc. My daughter got serious head injury and bled. Then Joshi, just before my eyes, poured kerosene oil and burnt them alive.
3. My son-in-law Ganga Singh aged 30 years, son Harbhajan Singh aged 18 years, nephew Babu Singh son of Gopal Singh aged 18 years were mercilessly beaten by the mob. Darshana's nephew (her husband's sister's son) and Muchhal Paharia beat them to death and after pouring kerosene oil burnt them.
Then the people of colony beat me and turned me out from my house. I went to Gurdwara. After two days I went to Sham Lal College, Shahdara. When they got the Police Station evacuated, I went to Durgapuri Gurdwara. Now, I am residing at the aforesaid address along with my daughter.
4. My arm was broken. It was operated upon in Safdarjung Hospital.
5. The mob looted and burnt my house where I suffered a loss of about Rs.75,000/-.
