AFFIDAVIT OF S. SURJIT SINGH, SON OF S. SANTOKH SINGH, AGED 46 YEARS, RESIDENT OF 16- B/5, DESH BANDHU GUPTA ROAD, KAROL BAGH, NEW DELHI-110005.
I, Surjit Singh the above named deponent, do herby solemnly affirm and state as under:-
1. That our shop styled as Nirman Tailors (Ladies Department), 16, Prahlad Marked was looted by the mob on 1.11.1984 and the remaining good were taken out ant burnt by the miscreants.
2. On morning of 1.11.1984 when after getting ready, I got down from my house, a friend of mine named Ram Lal came to me and I asked him to accompany to the Gurdwara, but he suggested that I should wait a little and let him go out first and find out the position as the Sardars were being beaten up everywhere. When he reached our shop, he could not come back as shops in our market were being looted and burnt.
3. At about 2.30.p.m. the mob after looting setting fire to a number of places in that locality came to our place. Some men who were leading the mob suggested to loot our house, since it belonged to Sardars. This utterance was also heard by my wife Ranjit Kaur and my son Harjit Singh. In the meantime our neighbour Kirori Mal came there and told us that he had told the mob that Sardars had left the place and that the building belonged to Hindus.
4. On the 5th of November, 1984. I went to the Police Station, Karol Bagh with my brother Pritpal Singh and Jaswant Singh of 8 Bhamri Mansion to lodge an F.R.I. There we saw that Dharam Das Shastri (M.P). was abusing S.H.O. and asking him to release his workers who had been detained. He (Sh. Dharam Das Shastri) boasted to the SHO, that he ( the SHO ) should know that he was Dharam Das Shastri. When the S.H.O. pleaded his helplessness in the matter, Mr. Shastri caught him by the neck and abused him. I saw that many persons had been detained by the Police.
