1984 Affidavits

Affidavit submitted before the Misra Commission

I, Sukhdev Singh aged about 34 years, s/o S. Kesar Singh, r/o E-16, Kiran Garden, New Delhi, do hereby on solemn affirmation state and declare as under: -

1. That on 1-11-84, I and other Sikhs of the locality Kiran Garden were attacked by Non-Sikhs and in self defence we all came out of our houses living around my house and challenged them.

2. That we were on the Najafgarh Road when a CRP Jeep with Suresh Kumar, Asstt. Commandant and 5/6 constables was stopped by me and others by standing in the road to cause obstruction. I and others requested Suresh Kumar to render necessary help to save our lives and property, but he refused to do so on the ground that it is not his duty to save the Sikhs, and he left the place.

3. That in the evening of 1-11-84, I was compelled to abandon my house. I took refuse in the house of my in-laws in West Patel Nagar, New Delhi.

4. That I say that in my absence my house has been looted by Non-Sikhs and nothing is left in my house by the culprits.

5. I suffered a loss of more than Rs.20,000/- (Rupess Twenty Thousand). No compensation is given to me.

6. I say that I am Inspector to CIS Force posted at Delhi.

7. I have seen that Non-Sikhs were freely attacking Sikhs, looting their properties and burning their houses, but there was no protection from the police at all.

Culprits should be punished.
