I, Sohan Singh S/o S. Didar Singh aged 58 years r/o 14-B/1, Desh Bandhu Gupta Road, Karol Bagh, New Delhi, do hereby solemnly affirm and state on oath as under:
1. That till November, 1984 I alongwith my family members residing on the above mentioned address.
2. On the 1st of November, 1984, at 10 or 10.30 AM about four thousands miscreants carrying lathis, sariyas, iron rods and kerosene oil and chemical reached our block from Anand Parbat and Bapa Nagar side. They had burnt a Gurdwara in Govt. Quarters (E-Type) in Dev Nagar and also burnt some shops and houses of Sikhs. Our cars were parked at the side of the main road. The miscreants were shouting “Aag laga do, Maar do Sardaron Ko”. Under our house these were six shops and one of them was let out to a Sardar who was carrying an electric shop. I had my office also in one of these shops. The electrician's shop was burnt first by goondas. Then fire spread in the next of the building. We had shifted to upper story. Back side, where our scooters and motorcycles were parked they had burnt by throwing powder. We informed the police but none came to our rescue. The police station is at a distance of two furlongs and police post in at distance of only one furlong. We had informed both the chowki police stations but there appeared none. Our relatives live in Shadipur. We gave them information on telephone. They said that they had informed the Lt. Governor office and some police was coming. But none came.
3. We, then under pressure and out of motive of self-defence fired in the air to scare the crowd. Then policemen in three jeeps reached there and started firing on us. They did not fire on the crowd. I asked the SHO to disperse the mob, but he did not listen and continued aggression against us. We have had regular license for our arms which were to be used for our defence. We frightened the mob with a fire in the air but men in the mob did not disperse. The police told us to come down as our house was burning from all sides. We came down and found that the mob started pelting stones on us, as a result of which we received injuries. My wife was badly injured and she was admitted in the Willington hospital by the police. I was taken by the police to Karol Bagh Police Station. My brother and son were taken to Daryaganj Police Station and detained in the lock up. On 2.11.84 we were sent to Jail, alongwith two nephews (Sister's sons were also detained). Next date i.e. 2.11.84 at 6 AM my nephews (Sister's son) were released, but in their place my son and brother were brought from Pahaganj Police Station and handed over to SHO Karol Bagh to be detained there.
4. On 2.11.84 at about 7 PM we were taken to Tihar Jail and on 16.11.84 we were bailed out. We have had arms licenses since 1949.
5. On our return from Jail we found that no security was provided for our goods in the house. The goods were looted away by the miscreants and then they burnt the houses. An FIR was lodged with SHO Karol Bagh on 7.11.84 by our children.
