1984 Delhi Sikh Genocide - Affidavits

1984 Affidavits

Affidavit submitted before the Nanavati Commission

I, Shashikant, S/o Late Sh. R.L. Chadha, aged about 48 yrs., R/o E-912, Saraswati Vihar, New Delhi, do hereby solemnly affirm and declare as under:-

1. That I during the riots of 1984, I had been residing at Old Rohtak Road, New Delhi, and was running my factory of carpet and steel furniture at factory premises of Shed No. 26 and Shed No. 3 Wazirpur Industrial Complex, DSIDC, New Delhi.

2. That on 1st November, '84, as per daily routine I reached my factory in the morning. At about 12:30 pm I heard there were many people shouting on the roads. When I came out from my factory I saw about 200 people are coming towards next to my factory. I saw one person was leading and showing the factory next to me which belongs to S. Tarlochan Singh Rana, Shed No. 27.

Then the mob broke open the lock of his factory and all entered the premises and looting the valuable items which they could carry. Then they set on fire the entire factory. There was big fire which broke out. I could see that there was total loss of building, plant and machinery including raw material finished and unfinished goods including books of accounts etc. There was no fire brigade available on that date. It was very sad when I saw this happened to a Sikh community only.
