1984 Affidavits

Affidavit submitted before the Misra Commission

I, Satnam Kaur, aged 25 years of age, wife of Surender Singh R/o C-54, DDA Flats, Slum Tenements, Garhi, New Delhi, do hereby on above affirmation state and declare as under

1. I and my family was earlier living in Qr.No.5/29, Block No.1, Gali No.6 Brahmpuri, near Shahdara, Delhi at the relevant time.

2. On 1.11.84 at about 9 am my husband and his brother Kartar Singh, 20 years of age started for their duty at the factory, but near the house, they were beaten by the non-sikhs, but somehow they came back to the house.

3. At about 10 PM on the same day, Kalicharan and his son Hari Om, my neighbours, Harbans Singh Jat, two brothers Pavan and Lachu all the three residents of the back street of our house, and one Prahlad r/o of my street and three more persons of my street who can be identified but I do not know their names, brought about 300 to 400 non-Sikh mob who were abusing the Sikhs and started brick-bating my house. Our doors were broken by them. My husband and his brother were beaten mercilessly with lathis, iron rods and they were stabbed all over the body time and again. One Congress (I) worker Guddu of the area was having sword in his hand and he inflicted sword injuries as my husband and his brother and when they were still alive, kerosene oil was put on them and they were burnt to death.

4. I was also beaten. One brick hit my head and I fell down. Then the assailants threw one burning tyre on me. By the heat of tyre I came to senses and got up and ran for safety to the house of my neighbour who is teacher. My children were saved by the same teacher. Kalicharan was saying loudly that my children, four is number, should also be burnt to death.

5. Police refused to record my report and I was told to get and should thank that I and my children were not killed. The attack was organized by the Congress (I) workers.

6. Action may be taken against the culprits and I should be given compensation for the loss of property which is about Rs.70,000/- including jewellery.
