1984 Affidavits

Affidavit submitted before the Nanavati Commission

I, Manjit Kaur W/o late S. Baljit Singh aged 45 yrs. R/o 23, Sawan Park Ext., Ashok Vikar, Delhi-52, do hereby solemnly affirm and declare as under:-

1. That in Nov.'84, I was staying at D/29-30, J.J.Colony, Madipur, Delhi-63.

2. That my husband was having a tent house in the name of Mahindra Tent House at ground floor of our residence. My husband expired in 1998.

3. That on 1st Nov.'84, when situation in the colony worsened and the houses of Sikhs were being looted and burnt, we left our house. We were given shelter by our neighbour ( a non-Sikh).

4. That thereafter we were shifted to Police Station. Later we went to Ashok Vihar at our relatives house.

5. That after we left our house on 1st Nov.'84, our house was looted and burnt. When we were going from our neighbour's house to Police Station, I saw my house was still burning.

6. That later I learnt that our house kept burning for three days and fire brigade did not come to control fire.

7. That we suffered a loss of Rs.1,27,000/- for the Mahindra tent house and Rs. 83,400/- for the loss of household items FIR enclosed. We received a compensation of Rs.12,500/- only.

8. That I am entitled to full compensation.
