1984 Affidavits

Affidavit submitted before the Misra Commission

I, Manjeet Kaur widow of S. Gyan Singh, aged 30 years, resident of E-335, Jagjit Nagar, New Usmanpur, Delhi, now residing at C-25 A, Tilak Vihar, New Delhi-18, do hereby solemnly affirm and declare on oath as under: -

1. On November 1, 1984, after setting the Gurdwara on fire at 10 AM, the mob came to our house. The mob asked us to come out of the house. We came out and our house was set on fire. We went to the house of Amrit Lal who turned us out of his house at 7 PM and informed the mob.

The mob killed my husband, his younger brother and his elder brother. The mob at first grievously injured them by lathi blows and then set them on fire. Kuldeepu, who runs an oil depot supplied oil to the mob to burn them. At first he was also along with them.

2. Even now when we got to fetch ration or to meet the mother-in-law living in front of our house. Kuldeep and Raju, sweet seller, laugh at us. And they say that nothing has happened to us till now.

3. Kuldeep (oil dealer), Raju (sweet Seller) and Amrit Lal were among the persons who got our men killed. One policeman belonging to Seelampur Police Station whose name we do not know but whom we can recognize was also accompanying the mob.

4. My husband owned two shops one at Brahmpuri and other at Gaunda and he traded in watches. Our shops and houses had been looted. My husband used to earn Rs.1500/- per month. We suffered a loss of about Rs.1,50,000/- against, which we did not get any compensation.
