1984 Delhi Sikh Genocide - Affidavits

1984 Affidavits

Affidavit submitted before the Misra Commission

I, Jaswant Singh aged 60 years, son of Sardar Moola Singh, resident of B-3/1, Krishna Nagar, Shahdara, Red Quarters, Delhi, declare on solemn affirmation that: -

1.On 31-10-84, when we received the news of the death of our beloved Prime Minister we felt very sad and we closed our shop and came home at around 3 PM.

2.On 1-11-84, at around 8 AM we were on our terrace since our house was being repaired / reconstructed. When I came downstairs. I heard that outside Sikhs were being beaten and killed and that their shops were being beaten and killed and that their shops were being looted and burnt.

I asked Inspector Kapoor, who was from that area and who was standing downstairs as to what was the matter and why were people saying that Sikhs were being treated in this manner. In reply he told me to stay inside the house and not to talk much with anyone. He said that I need not respond to anything anyone says. And I went back inside the house.

3.On 1-11-84, at 11 AM, about 200 to 250 people who were shouting and raising slogans such as kill the Sikhs, blood for blood came to our house. Hearing them I and my family went into the back room of our house and bolted the door from inside. The people standing outside started breaking up our house. We all jumped the wall and went to the house of our neighbour who stays in B-42. We spent the night there.

4.On 2-11-84, we came out at 5:30 AM, and saw that the house and shop C-11, which was known by the name of Famous Tailor & Drapers had been looted. I lost Rs.1.5 lakh in this incident.

5.The police did not help us and in fact stood and watched the tamasha.
