1984 Affidavits

Affidavit submitted before the Nanavati Commission

I, Inderjit Singh, S/o Late S. Gurdyal Singh, aged 65 yrs., R/o WZ-219 A, Gali No.2, Varinder Nagar, New Delhi-58, do hereby solemnly affirm and declare as under:-

1. That in Nov.'84, I was living in a rented accommodation at 5983, Nabi Karim, Factory Road, Pahar Ganj, New Delhi, along with my family which included my wife, two sons, two daughters, who were wholly dependent upon me.

2. That I was earning my livelihood by driving an auto rickshaw bearing registration No. DLR-1485 which was owned by me.

3. That on 31st Nov.'84, while I was driving scooter near Safdarjung Hospital at 3 pm where I heard that Mrs. Indira Gandhi was killed. Some people, whom I did not know, asked me to go home. I retuned home at 4 pm.

4. That due to the widespread riots in the city I could not go out to earn my livelihood. That I remained confined at my house. At about 2 pm a large mob, shouting slogans against Sikhs, "loot their house and kill them" had collected in front of my residence and the mob attacked my house and damaged it.

5. That my auto rickshaw which was parked outside my house was burnt completely by the mob. I had filed a complaint regarding burning of my auto rickshaw with the Incharge, P.P. Nabi Karim , New Delhi, on 7-11-84, copy of which is being annexed herewith as ANNEXURE –'A'.

6. That apart from suffering loss of Rs.40,000/- on account of the cost of the burnt auto rickshaw I also suffered loss of my livelihood as I had no source to buy a new auto rickshaw or even a second hand one. That moreover I was even unable to afford paying rent to my landlord and due to which I was forced and compelled to vacate the rented premises. I was completely deprived of any income.
