1984 Delhi Sikh Genocide - Affidavits

Affidavit submitted before the Misra Commission

I, Inderjit Singh aged about 51 years son of S. Narain Singh, r/o 5031/3, Sat Nagar, Karol Bagh, New Delhi, do hereby on solemn affirmation state and declare as under: -

1. That n 1-11-84, at about 11 AM a mob of Non-Sikhs came and they collectively set our 3 trucks on fire saying that property of Sikhs should be looted or destroyed. Trucks numbers are DLG-5843, DLG-7141, DLG-8807. Window pans of our house were broken.

2. That the photographs of our burning trucks were published by Surya India November`84 on page 49 and Illustrated Weekly December 23-29, 1984 on page 10.

3. Earlier to that the mob of Non-Sikhs which was by and large from Regharpura, Bapa Nagar and Dev Nagar, looted and burnt the shop of Baweja TV etc. and other shops of the Sikhs in Prahlad Market, Karol Bagh, New Delhi.

4. The police deliberately failed to take any action against the culprits who were committing crimes of looting, burning of properties of Sikhs in their presence. There was no police control at all. Lawlessness was to its extreme.

5. That police has never investigated till date these large scale crimes.

6. I can identify most of the culprits who are residents of the area. We have received no compensation for the loss of property till date.

7. I say that for this deep rooted conspiracy, Congress (I) and the police were directly responsible. To my knowledge no search of the houses of these dacoits took place at the hands of the police. It was on the other announced by the police that those who had looted the property of Sikhs should deposit the same with the Police Station.

8. I pray that strong action according to law should be taken against the culprits and the defaulting government and Police Officers, so that such a type of large scale crimes are avoided and communal riots supported by the Government machinery and the ruling party are not repeated in future at my cost.
