1984 Delhi Sikh Genocide - Affidavits

Affidavit submitted before the Misra Commission

I, H.T. Souji, aged about 53 years, s/o T. Souji, r/o 5217/6, (Ground Floor), Krishan Nagar, Karol Bagh, New Delhi-5, do hereby on solemn affirmation state and declare as under: -

1. That I am tenant in House No.5217/6, Krishan Nagar, Karol Bagh, New Delhi-5, for the last more than twelve years.

2. That I say that on 1.11.84, I was at home with my family. At about 10.45 AM on that date a mob attacked the car of a Sardar in the fifth in our row in Street No.5, Krishan Nagar, Karol Bagh, New Delhi-5. Door of my house also opens towards Street No.5. The main door opening towards Street No.6. Avtar Singh Vir, Advocate objected to this attack on the car.

3. That a few minutes later, the house of Avtar Singh Vir, in which I am also residing in a portion in the ground floor, was attacked with brick bats, his car was set on fire. The brick batting was so heavy from both sides of the house in Streets No.5 to 6, Krishan Nagar, that my and my family's life was also in serious danger and as such I and my family had to escape from the house and we took shelter in the opposite house of another Hindu and remained behind the closed doors for more than three four hours.

4. I say that this brick batting and attack continued for about three hours. When this attack was over, I came out from my hide out and found that almost all the glass pans of the house on both sides were totally broken, one door of the office of Avtar Singh Vir, in street No.6 was also partially burnt and broken. There were hundred of brick bats lying inside of the house, on the roof of the house in the streets near our house. The car of Avtar Singh Vir in Street No.6 was burning.

5. In this attack, Tek Chand Sharma, Rajinder Sharma, one Uttam scooter mechanic in Street No.6 and many more persons of the locality took part and attacked the house of Avtar Singh Vir and deliberately caused damage to the property for more than Rs.50,000/- according to my guess.

6. I say that no Police Officer ever came to me to enquire about the facts. For personal security reasons, this affidavit be kept confidential.
