1984 Delhi Sikh Genocide - Affidavits

Affidavit submitted before the Nanavati Commission

I, Gurjeet Kaur, W/o Late Santokh Singh, aged about 60 yrs., R/o Block-A, House No.160, Ashok Vihar, Phase II, Delhi-110052, do hereby solemnly affirm and declare as under:-

1. That my late husband Santokh Singh was a truck driver.

2. That on 1-11-84, my husband and his uncle (Chacha) Jung Singh took their trucks from Gulabi Bagh, Delhi-110007, where these were parked for loading of goods. My husband was driver of truck No.MTB-1192, whereas Jung Singh drove truck No.MTB-1326.

3. That my husband Santokh Singh and Jung Singh had to take the goods loaded in above said vehicle to Bangalore to deliver the goods.

4. That on 1-11-84, unruly mob armed with deadly weapon stopped the above trucks at Gurgaon (Haryana). My husband and Jung Singh ran out to save themselves from being killed by the mob.

5. That the mob chased my husband and Jung Singh and killed them there. I came to know about this fact later on when I enquired from various places including Gurgaon.

6. That I made enquiries later on from various sources about the whereabouts of my husband. My in law Mahinder Singh (uncle of my deceased husband) lodged a complaint on 14-11-84, with the Police Station, Gulabi Bagh, Delhi-110007. (copy enclosed as Annexure 1). I also advertised a missing report about my husband in "Hindustan" daily newspaper dated 26-11-84, (Photocopy enclosed as Annexure-2). I also lodged a complaint with Police Station, Ashok Vihar (copy of complaint enclosed as Annexure-3).

I also complained to the Deputy Commissioner, Relief Cell-1, Old Civil Supply Bldg., Room No.5, Tis Hazari, Delhi-110006, through Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (copy enclosed as Annexure-4). My complaint / application was duly received and acknowledged by Binam Bhushan, SDM, Dy. Director Relief-I, B.D.O Office Complex, Village Alipur, Delhi vide Memorandum No.450 dtd. 17/2/97 (copy enclosed as Annexure-5).

7. That neither me nor any of my relative have heard about my husband after 1-11-84.

8. That from the above it is evident that my husband has been killed by mob on 1-11-84, at Gurgaon. But till now, despite my all efforts, I have not been given compensation on account of his death.

9. That I may be given compensation on account of death of my husband at the earliest possible.
