1984 Affidavits

Affidavit submitted before the Nanavati Commission

I, S. Gurbax Singh S/o S. Saran Singh age 56 yrs., R/o A4/162, Paschim Vihar, New Delhi do hereby solemnly affirm and declare as under:-

1. That I along with my other members of the family was staying at T 352, Ahata Kidara, Bara Hindu Rao, Delhi since 1947.

2. That on 1st November'84, at about 11 am we saw a large mob approaching towards our home. The mob was raising anti-Sikh slogans. Immediately I along with my family members left our home, took shelter elsewhere.

3. That during our absence, the mob looted our house and burnt it.

4. That later on 4th November '84, we came to see our home and found that it was completely looted and burnt. I suffered loss of about Rs. 1.5 lacs in household property.

5. That the house was completely destroyed and was not live able. It had to be sold at throw away price.

6. That I received compensation of Rs. 5000/- for the house nothing for loss of household property.

7. That I request that I may kindly be granted compensation of Rs. 15 lacs for the loss of household items as well as for the house which was destroyed completely.
