1984 Delhi Sikh Genocide - Affidavits

Affidavit submitted before the Misra Commission

I, Gulshanjit Singh S/o Late Jhirmal Singh, aged 49 yrs, R/o 17B/28, Dev Nagar, Karol Bagh, New Delhi-110005, do hereby solemnly affirm and state as under: -

1. I say that I am residing at the aforesaid residential address since 1953 and am employed with the Ministry of Defence.

2. That on November 1, 1984, a mob of about 100 – 150 persons armed with iron rods, lathis, knives etc. attacked me and my wife when I was trying to start my car parked in front of my house. They snatched away my personal belongings and the jewellery of my wife.

3. That the mob stoned my house very heavily and then set my car No. DIA 7910 on fire which was completely burnt. They looted my household effects.

4. That there were two policemen posted just near my house who were on permanent duty at two banks i.e. Punjab National Bank situated in House No.16B/4 and Syndicate Bank at 16B/6. The mob indulged in their nefarious and illegal acts before these police personnel but they did not bother at all to stop the mob.

5. That the mob mostly comprised of residents from Bapa Nagar near my house. I do not know their names but can recognize them if produced before me.

6. That I made innumerable calls to the police for help but nobody came to my rescue.

7. That I made formal complaint of the incident to the Police Chowki Prasad Nagar, New Delhi-110005, but the culprits have not so far been traced. Copy of the complaint and various letters to the authorities to take appropriate action are herewith.
