1984 Affidavits

Affidavit submitted before the Nanavati Commission

I, Darshan Singh, S/o S. Hardit Singh, aged about 53 yrs., R/o NW-153B, Vishnu Garden, Khyala, New Delhi, do hereby solemnly affirm and declare as under:-

1. That during Oct./ Nov.'84, I along with my wife and children was residing at RZ-12B, West Sagarpur, Vir Nagar, P.O. Nangal Raya, New Delhi-46.

2. That on 1/11/84, there was lot of tension in our locality. Group of miscreants were freely roaming in the street raising anti Sikh slogans. We got scared and hid ourselves in our house to save our lives. After sometime our Hindu neighbour residing nearby took me and my family along with them and cancealed us in their house.

There we heard loud shouting outside and people were saying, "Sardar Ke Ghar Ko Jala Diya, Loot Liya." My neighbour told me that my house had been set on fire and my household articles stolen / looted by the miscreants.

3. That on 3/11/84, we were rescued by the military and were taken to P.S.Delhi Cantt.

4. That my house was damaged / burnt and my household goods looted I suffered a loss of Rs.45,000/-. I lodged report with the P.S. Delhi Cantt. on 10/11/84, copy of which is enclosed herewith. I was given a compensation of Rs.5,000/- only. I am entitled to the compensation of Rs.40,000/- as stated herein.
