1984 Delhi Sikh Genocide - Affidavits

Affidavit submitted before the Nanavati Commission

I, Daljit Kaur, W/o Dildar Singh, aged 47 yrs., at present staying at F 6 / 424, Sultanpuri, New Delhi, do hereby solemnly affirm and declare as under:-

1. That in Oct./ Nov.'84, I and my family were staying at F 2 / 162, Sultanpuri, N.D.

2. That my husband was working abroad in Iraq / Behrein and had brought lot of imported things for the marriage of our daughter.

3. That at about 7 pmon 1st November, 84, a huge violent mob armed with lathis and other such implements attacked our house. They looted the house and set it on fire. They severely beat my elder brother-in-law, S. Sohan Singh S/o Kashmira Singh and throw his wounded body into fire. He died in that fire.

4. That I saw all this and ran away from the rear with my children to the house of Sh. Girdhari Lal which was nearby. Some other Sikhs were also sheltering there. After some time the mob attacked this house also and killed the Sikhs male members namely S. Harpal Singh S/o S. Swant Singh etc. Seeing this we ran away from there and hid ourselves in a vacant building nearby. Some more victims also came there for hiding. We stayed in this place till am 4th November hungry and thirsty and were evacuated to Rani Bagh, Refugee Camp on am 4th November.

5. That I lodged an FIR in the Sultanpuri, Police Station. I suffered a loss of Rs.75,000/- on account of goods only. (copy attached)

6. That I have received compensation of Rs.3.5 lakhs for the deceased S. Sohan Singh.

7. That I have not received any compensation for my household goods looted and burnt and for the house which was set on fire and burnt.

8. That I pray that my loss be compensated.
