1984 Delhi Sikh Genocide - Affidavits

Affidavit submitted before the Misra Commission

I, Boota Singh, aged about 65 years son of S. Gujjar Singh, r/o G-66, Kiran Garden, New Delhi-110059, do hereby on solemn affirmation declare as under: -

1. That on 1-11-84, I could see from my house that Gurdwara, Dera Baba Mohan Singh at Matiala Road was attacked by mob of Non-Sikhs and the car of Baba was set on fire by the said mob. The mob was brick batting the Gurdwara and damaged the property of Gurdwara.

2. That after setting an fire the car of Baba and damaging the property of Gurdwara, the mob attacked my house and I and my family members defended ourselves forcefully. The mob had to run away.

3. That again on 2-11-84, at about 8.30 am I could see that the properties of Sikhs living around were being set on fire and looted by the Non-Sikhs. Seeing danger to our lives I along with my family members left our house and took shelter in a nearby steel factory at a distance of about 50 – 60 meters.

4. I say that the mob of Non-Sikhs which attacked us was lead by Sita Ram an employee of DCM chemicals, but living in our area, Kanwar Singh an employee of DTC but residing in Kiran Garden and many others whose names I do not know but I can recognize most of them.

5. I suffered a loss of about Rs.1,00,000/- for which no compensation is given.

6. I say that police was seen moving about around the mob, but they did not take any action against the mob nor they tried to protect the Sikhs and their properties as if it was not their function at all. The whole action was well organized by the Non-Sikhs who were Congress (I) workers in general.
