I, Barfi Bai aged 50 years, wife of late Sh. Eshwar Singh, formerly resident of 32-Block, H.No.110, Trilokpuri, presently at C-830, Tilak Vihar, New Delhi state on solemnly affirmation that: -
1. My children are named as under: -
a. Thakur Singh – 25 years, he was not in Delhi at that time.
b. Naval Singh – 20 years, he was killed in the riots.
c. Hoshiyar Singh – 12 years, he was at home at that time.
d. 4 daughters, two of whom are married and live in their own houses and of the other two girls – one 10 years and the other 8 years old. They were at home at home at that time. My husband Eshwar Singh was also killed.
2. On 1st November at 10 am people started gathering. Just then two policemen came and asked everyone to go to their houses since curfew had been imposed. Then the police went away. At around 11:00 am thousands of people collected and came. They were armed with sticks, knives and long knives. They tried to enter the Gurdwaras.
3. All the Sikhs came together and tried to stop these people. Some of the Sikhs had swords in their hands. The two groups were not fighting but were merely arguing with each other. Just then some persons from the mob set fire to the Gurdwaras. Just then a police vehicle arrived and specifically ordered all the Sikhs to go home. The mob retreated a little and stood there. We all went to our homes. The police vehicle also went away. And while going away told the mob that all the Sikhs are now in their houses.
4. As soon as the police went the mob again came forward. There were many thousand people belonging to neighbouring villages. First they looted them they set fire. My husband was attacked with a stick and he fell down wounded. Some people from the mob poured kerosene on him and burnt him alive.
5. I and my four children were fearfully hiding in a neighbour's house. They mob had tins full of kerosene and petrol. As soon as they mob went ahead, I took my children and went and hid in the house of a woman named Draupadi who was our neighbour.
6. About 100 young boys who had shaved their beards and moustaches, were hiding in her house. Some of them were wearing feminine apparel. After this Draupadi's husband Jagga, told the mob that the Sardars were wearing feminine garments and were hiding among the women. The mob pulled out the boys from our midst and strated beating them with sticks. Then they burnt them alive. The night of 1st November passed. But on the 2nd November the people there chased our women and children away. We ran to Chilla Village. There also the people chased us away. We hid in the fields. Hungry and thirsty we spent the whole day in hiding. At night we went and hid in the temple at Chilla village. The village Sarpanch arrived there with a few people. They had sticks in their hands. They abused us and said, "Sasuriyon, don't hide here. Do you want to get us killed also." They chased us away from there. From there we came at night to Kalyanpuri Thana and spent the night there.
7. On 3rd November the military took us to the Farash Bazar camp. In the mob there were people from Chilla Village. They tormented us a lot. They cut the electricity connection, and spoilt the tap. They did not allow us to pour water in our houses. They burnt alive our husbands and sons and did not allow us to pour water even over them.
