1984 Affidavits

Affidavit submitted before the Nanavati Commission

I, Balwant Kaur, W/o Late S. Inder Singh, aged 70 yrs., R/o C/o Parveen, L-136/A, Dilshad Garden, New Delhi, do hereby solemnly affirm and declare as under:-

1. That in November,'84, my family and I were residing at 1826, Malka Ganj, Delhi-110007, since last three decades.

2. That on 31st October,'84, we heard that Mrs. Indira Gandhi, Prime Minister of India, had been killed.

3. That on 1st Nov.'84, our neighborers told us to stay inside our house and not move out as violence against Sikhs had broken out.

4. That we stayed inside our house till about 8 pm 2nd November, '84, when we were evacuated by a military detachment to Refugee Camp set up at Subzi Mandi, Police Station, for Sikh victims.

5. That when we visited our house after five days on 7th Nov.'84, whilst staying in the camp, we found that it had been completely looted and partially burnt.

6. That since we were rendered homeless and had no clothing, bedding etc., we stayed in the camp for 2 months.

7. That since then I am living with my daughters and I am a burden on them.

8. That I had suffered a loss of over Rs.75,000/- which included normal household goods, bedding and other items – the family jewelry and my daughter's jewelry amounted to Rs.40,000/-.
