1984 Affidavits

Affidavit submitted before the Nanavati Commission

I, S. Avtar Singh, S/o S. Jai Singh, aged 60 years, R/o WZ-134, Gali No. 35, Sant Garh, Tilak Nagar, New Delhi, do hereby solemnly affirm and declare as under:-

1. That I was residing at B-481, J.J. Colony, Inderpuri, Naraina, New Delhi-110018, since 1962 when it was allotted to me by D.D.A.

2. That on 1st November'84, I was sitting in the shop, which was in front of my house. At about 1200 hrs. unruly mob came shouting "kill the Sikhs" towards my house.

3. That on seeing the unruly mob, I left my home along with my wife and children and took shelter in neighbor's house who was a south Indian.

4. That after about 2-3 hrs. I came to know that my shop and house had been looted and were burnt.

5. That on 4th November'84, when I saw the condition coming normal with military coming in the colony, we left the neigh borer's house and went to the uncle's house at Mansarovar Garden. That after about 5 yrs. I sold the home as. I did not have the courage to live in that area.

6. That I suffered a loss of Rs. 80,000/- in household items and burning of my house.

7. That I have received no compensation for the loss suffered and by me from any Govt. agency.

8. That I humbly request that I am very poor person and suitable compensation may kindly be ordered.
