1984 Delhi Sikh Genocide - Affidavits

Affidavit submitted before the Misra Commission

I, Apjit Singh, aged about 30 years, son of S. Davinder Singh, r/o B-123, Kiran Garden, Delhi-59, do hereby on solemn affirmation declare as under: -

1. That on 1-11-84, at about 3.30 am, Non-Sikhs started looting and burning the properties of Sikhs in my area and started killing the Sikhs also.

2. That on 2-11-84, at about 9 am, Kirpa Ram Pradhan of Nawada village and Raj Paul alias Palu Kerosene Oil Depot owner, Matiala Road, New Delhi-59 came along with a large mob to my house and both of them ordered the mob to attack us, loot our property and burn the house. Due to the incidence in the area of burning, looting and killing from 1-11-84 onwards, I along with my family members were already hiding in a neighbouring house from where we were seeing all this.

3. That Raj Paul alias Palu was having double barrel gun with him. The entire mob was of Non-Sikhs.

4. That my house was identified at the spot by one Jai Bhagwan Sharma, Congress (I) worker, who was also with the mob. He has also looted my house. In the mob I could recognize also Chinta Ram Chowkidar of Boys Primary School, Nawada and one Saney son of Piarey, Barber of Gulab Bagh, New Delhi-59, who took active part at the spot in burning and looting our property.

5. I suffered a loss of about 2,25,000/- for which no compensation is given.

6. The police deliberately failed to take action against these criminal acts of the aforesaid persons and their companions. No case is registered against any body. My complaint was not recorded by the Police because I was mentioning the names of the above culprits also. The police was wanting that I should not mention the names of the culprits, and rather I should be grateful that I have not being killed.
