1984 Affidavits

Affidavit submitted before the Nanavati Commission

I, Ajit Singh S/o Late S. Jagdish Singh, R/o E-12, Kirti Nagar, New Delhi-110015, do hereby solemnly affirm and declare as under: -

1. That I was having two shops at 1600 & 1602, Dariba Kalan, Chandni Chowk, Delhi-110006, where I was doing the business of electrical goods and wires.

2. That in November 1984 riots there were only 3 shops belonging to Sikhs in Dariba Kalan, Chandni Chowk, Delhi. Apart from their shops two Sikh families were residing at Kanari Bazar near my shop.

3. That in November 1984 riots both my shops as well as shop of S. Anup Singh bearing No.1605, Dariba Kalan, Chandni Chowk, Delhi, were looted by the rioters. I went to my shops on 6th November'84 and saw that my both shops were looted. Later on, I came to know from the local people that my shops were looted by the mob, in which local goondas were involved in the presence of police. In this looting of my shops I suffered a loss of Rs.1,25,000/-.

4. That I enquired from the those Sikh families who were residing at Kanari Bazar near my shops about the looting. They had also told me that mob did not come to their houses hence; no incident was taken place in this area.
