1984 Affidavits

Affidavit submitted before the Misra Commission

I, Ajeet Singh s/o Darshan Singh aged 31 years, r/o A-130, Gita Colony, New Delhi-32, do hereby solemnly affirm and state on oath as under: -

1. On Oct.31, 1984, when we heard the news of death of our beloved Prime Minister we were shocked and we came home after closing our shops.

2. On Nov.1, 1984, when we got up we heard lot of noise and smoke. Then we climbed up on our roof and found that the shops on the main road were being burnt and the Sikhs were being beaten. We conferred with the colony people that we all unite together to save our colony. We all are brothers and we all are united.

3. After the meeting we all, both hindus and Sikhs stopped the routes coming into the colony so that the outside intruders could be stopped. The mob tried to enter our colony but was unsuccessful.

4. The mob was being led by Sukhan Lal Sud who is a Member Metropolitan Coucil. I know him very well because I used to supply tents from my shop his public meetings. When the mob tried to enter into colony and we defended ourselves then the persons in mob asked as to why we were helping the Sikhs. All the Sikhs are gaddars (traitors). It was about 10 am. When the mob failed to enter our colony then Sukhan Lal Sud asked the mob to show him the Gurdwaras of the colony and that they shall settle with us later on. The Gurdwara is behind our block. That Gurdwara is know by the name of Dera Baba Jai Singh. The mob burnt the Gurdwara. After burning the Gurdwara the mob proceeded towards Radhu Place.

5. After about 30 – 45 minutes one of my Hindu friend told me that the mob had burnt the Tent House near Radhu Palace. We went to that place alongwith our 2 – 3 servants. I have suffered a loss of about 1 – 2 lakhs. That mob was raising slogans, "Khoon Ka Badla Khoon." "Sardaron Ka Namo Nishan Mitta Do" (Blood for Blood, Wipe out every trace of Sikhs).
