Gurdwara Sri Vivah Asthan Mata Ganga, is also known as Gurdwara Mao Sahib to the local villagers as it is situated in the Mao Sahib village 9 km's from Phillaur.
Sri Guru Arjan Sahib Ji travelled here from Amritsar via Goindwal Sahib to marry to Mata Ganga who lived here.
Mata Ganga's father was Bhai Kishan Chand and the marriage was solmenised by Baba Budha Ji on 22 Harh 1589 AD.
Guru Arjan had arrived in the nearby village of Bilga the day before the wedding, a few personal items of Guru Arjan can still be seen there.
Along with Guru Sahib, was Baba Budha Ji, Bhai Manj Ji, Bhai Shalo Ji, Mian Mir Ji, Bhai Gurdas Ji, Bhai Sang Ji, Bhai Chajjo and others.
There is a huge historic well here from the time of Guru Arjan. Some say Guru Arjan built the well as a celebration after the marriage.
After arriving in Mao Sahib, all the residents of the village came out to receive the marriage party. The headman of the village met the group and said, "There is a tradition of this village that before entering the village the bridegroom has to lance out a peg dug in the field with a spear while on horseback."
