1984 Delhi Genocide - Chapter 84: Reactions Of Ex-Police Officials

1984 Important Sikh Genocide articles

Before releasing the investigative documentary Chapter 84, Cobrapost tried to contact all police officers that the reporter interviewed for the final video. However, we managed to get in touch with only 4 of them. We wanted to inform them about the release of the film and get their reactions before publishing the documentary. Following were their reactions:

Rohtas Singh, SHO, Delhi Cantonment in 1984

The reporter tells Rohtas that he met him regarding a documentary on 1984 riots and the conversation between him and the reporter has been recorded. Rohtas admits of meeting the reporter but says that he is feeling cheated as he wasn't informed of the recording. He insisted that his name should not be revealed in the documentary. Rohtas says: "Mera naam bhi reference nahi dena aapne... Aap yeh keh sakte ho ki ek purane police officer ne kaha (You should not mention my name or give my reference. You could say that the information has been provided by an ex police official)."

When Rohtas comes to know that his conversation with the reporter has been captured on camera, Rohtas says: " Yeh to dhoka kiya aapne... aap mujhko batate ki main record kar raha hu... main recording ko bhi mana kar doonga... meri aawaz nahi hai main keh doonga.(You have cheated me. You should have told me that you are recording. I will deny that I am in the recording. I will say that it's not my voice)."

When the reporter tells him that the documentary will be on air soon, Rohtas says: "I don't want to be a party in this matter. Kyunki abhi chal raha hai bahut hi jo hawa bahut hi garm garm chal raha hai aapko pata hai... I don't want to invite any trouble ( I don't want to be a party in this matter. The matter is so serious now a days. You know about it. I don't want to invite any trouble)"

S.C. Tandon, Commissioner of Delhi Police

The reporter tells him that his conversation with the reporter regarding 1984 riots has been video recorded and will be on air soon in form of a documentary. Coming to know of this, Tandon says: Kamal karte hai aap... yeh aapki harkate hai ? Accha kya chahte hai aap? Kya likha kya kaha poori baat bataiye (Its very surprising on your part. Is this the way you behave ? What do you want ? tell me the whole of it whatever you have written)

Surprised at the reporter for recording his conversation, Tandon has only one thing to ask: "Toh mere kya yeh khilaf ja rahi hai koi baat ki mere favor me ja rahi hai (Is it going in my favor or against me ?)."
Tandon was angry with the reporter as he didn't take permission for recording his conversation.

A.S. Bhullar, SHO Patel Nagar

When the reporter tells Bhullar that his documentary on 1984 anti Sikh riots is complete and will be on air very soon, Bhullar could not recall the contents of the conversation he had with the reporter. He urged the reporter to reveal the content, if possible, immediately. Bhullar says: Nahi nahi jo pura bayan hai woh chahe wo video hi ho audio na ho video hi ho toh kuch pata toh lage na ki kya likha hai aapne (I want to know about the entire content. Whether its audio or video. I would want to know what has been written by you)."

When the reporter tells Bhullar that during the conversation had said that some 'people' were seen at that time, Bhullar says " Nahi nahi... Maine kisi neta ko nahi kaha dekha tha maine... yeh toh maine nahi kaha ki neta ko maine dekha tha... yeh to kahi bhi nahi kaha tha ( No. No. I never said that I saw any leader. I never told you that I saw any leader. Never ever I said that )."

Afraid of being exposed Bhullar says: "koi baat ho gayi...koi controversy mein aa gaya to kya? (If something happens and if it becomes a controversial issue, then what ?)"

Gautam Kaul, Additional Commissioner of Delhi Police

When the reporter informed Kaul that the conversation with him has been recorded and will be on air soon. Kaul before banging down the handset only said: "Kya maine permission di thi ? (Did I give you permission (to record) ?) --------------------
